I’ve started using this analogy recently, and am amazed how well the visual picture has really resonated with everyone. Maybe they all have Easter eggs on the brain as much as I apparently do?
What in the world do I mean by this?
Well, what kinds of things have you tried in your own job search?
(long pause. Don’t worry, I’ll wait!)
If you are like most of my new clients, you probably said something to the effect of “I’ve submitted my resume ____ amount of times to job postings online.”
This is just like putting all of your eggs in ONE basket!
You’re pinning all of your success on just one tactic.
And sadly, applying to job postings online isn’t even the most “successful,” statistically!
According to several studies, approximately 9% of jobs are found through applying to job postings (online or print). So, yes it DOES happen, but your odds are not that fabulous.
I encourage you to add a few more baskets to your job search. What other things could you try?
By spreading your eggs amongst several baskets, you are INCREASING your odds of success!
In the job search, you never know which egg is going to end up being the coveted golden egg. And we just need to get one of those golden egg opportunities!
So, this week I challenge you to pick out one NEW TACTIC to try in your job search. Add one basket to start putting eggs in, and see how the results start to pile up!
