Have you seen this new game?
Yes, now as a society, we are so branded we create board games out of it.
So it shouldn’t surprise you that the concept of BRANDING has invaded the job search world as well. I know I’ve been talking about it myself for years.
But that doesn’t mean it’s that easy figuring out what your brand currently is, or should be.
The article, 3 Steps To An Outstanding Personal Branding Statement, has some great tips on creating that personal branding statement (or summary statement, or positioning statement – depending on what terminology you prefer) in terms of how you would list it on a resume.
Personally, I’m more interested in how you brand yourself in person, than on paper. How do you brand yourself in response to the question, “Tell me about yourself” or “So, what do you do?”
Here is my personal breakdown of how you should answer that question:
- “This is who I am.”
- “This is what I have to offer.”
- “This is what I’m looking for.”
If you can nail those three questions – then you’ve grabbed my attention, and often control the direction of the conversation to emphasize your strongest selling points.
And that is branding success.
