What’s your brand? Or better yet, do you have one?
Recruiters and HR professional will “Google” you to determine if you are a qualified candidate for their open position – before they ever pick up the phone. Consider this a new, extra step, that vets you and your expertise.
According to a study by Execunet, 75% of recruiters search candidate information on the Internet, and more than 25% of them have dropped a candidate based on what they found. Heck, it’s almost a weekly occurrence that we now hear about people who are losing their jobs based off what they do online.
So what are recruiters seeing when they Google you? In order to figure out how you rate – search your name (using quotation marks around the name, such as “Julie Mendez”). Consider also trying with your middle initial or middle name, or maiden name.
Not like what you’ve found? Then it’s time to do some damage control, and quickly. It’s doable but will take some effort.
Did you not find anything? That’s not great either, but there’s a fix for that as well. You need to promote your brand and create awareness about what you have to offer.
