With over twelve years as a Career Coach and more than five years in Recruiting, I bring an insider’s view of what recruiters really look for.
One thing became crystal clear to me during my time at an elite head-hunting firm in New York City, and then later managing a placement agency branch in Washington, DC: unless they seek guidance, the average person relies on traditional job search methods – and therefore they experience average results.
I saw many people who simply sent out résumés and applied for job postings, hoping that eventually, their efforts would pay off. But with everyone else in the job market doing the same thing, it often took a very long time. As I tell my clients, you can wait for an opportunity to knock, but inviting it over for dinner is a much smarter way to get ahead!
I started JSM Career Coaching after following my husband’s Foreign Service career in US Embassies around the world as a “trailing spouse.”
Soon I decided to draw upon my skills to help others find fulfilling work and utilize their talents – so I started my own career coaching and job search business. I even led employment-related teleseminars for many US Embassy communities, allowing me to support our country’s diplomatic spouses.
My passion is helping clients take a strategic approach to their career, job search, résumé, and interviews. My strategic approach helps you identify what you want and then pursue it with ingenuity, passion, and determination. I have yet to see a client who did not dramatically improve their job prospects through this highly focused and effective approach.
One of my greatest rewards is receiving calls from excited clients when they are holding their offer letter. I also love it when a person, once worn out by traditional job search methods, feels the exhilaration of making contact with the “insiders” in a company who can help them land their dream job.
